Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize announces the temporary halt to the roll out of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, which ought to start next-week.
Mkhize announced, that the country will put on temporary hold the use of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 shot in its vaccination programme, after data showed it gave minimal protection against mild-to-moderate infection caused by the country’s dominant coronavirus variant.
Dr Mkhize along with Professor Salim Abdool Karm spoke at a media briefing on Sunday night, where the next move was revealed.
Lots of South African on social media have expressed rage and fear following the news that the AstraZeneca vaccine is ineffective and to expire soon.
