Zondo grants court order to make Zuma appear at inquiry

Zondo grants court order to make Zuma appear at inquiryA court order by the state capture commission’s legal team to force former President Jacob Zuma to testify in November has been granted by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.

It states that Zuma is expected to appear at 10am from 16 November to 20 November 2020.

Zondo ruled that Zuma could choose to testify virtually.

Zuma’s appearance at the inquiry is necessary and desirable for the commission to carry out its work.

The commission’s evidence leader, Advocate Paul Pretorius, told Zondo that there were so many why Zuma deserved to be issued summons.

“Firstly, much, if not most of the corruption and acts which might constitute state capture, occurred during his term of office as president of the republic,” he said.

The secretariat applied for the former president to be summoned to appear before the commission because he refused to attend the inquiry.

Zuma however stated that he could not attend the proceedings because he was preparing for his upcoming corruption trial.

He also called on Zondo to recuse himself.

Zuma’s lawyers were not present during the application.
