Short film revenue sharing launched this month, and now the video platform is rolling out its “Creator Music” catalog. Announced in September, creators could purchase licenses to use music in their videos or split ad revenue with the artist. This is now live for US YouTubers who are part of the YPP (YouTube Partner Program).

The licensing situation varies from track to track. Depending on the song you find, you can either purchase the license directly and download the track to use in your video, or pay for the music by splitting the revenue with the artist and respective rights holders.

These licenses are for “one-time long form video” and cannot be used for live streams. Either way, the “Creator Music” catalog will allow you to use copyrighted songs in your videos without demonetizing copyright claims.

The catalog is located in the desktop version of YouTube Studio at the bottom of the sidebar next to the usual library of free tracks for YouTube videos. YouTube will eventually expand its creator music to other markets.
