Xbox Series S/X gets reduced boot animation, cold boot times

Microsoft is reportedly rolling out a test build for Xbox Dashboard that claims to reduce cold boot times by up to 5 seconds. The Redmond company apparently achieved this feat by shortening the boot animation to around 4 seconds. A report mentions that this change will supposedly only be noticeable if the console has been set to Energy Saver mode. Earlier this year, Microsoft reportedly made Energy Saver mode the default option for Xbox consoles.

Integrated Marketing Director for Xbox Josh Munsee confirmed the update after a keen-eyed Xbox tester noticed changes. Munsee claims that the boot animation has been reduced to around 4 seconds from the original 9 seconds to improve overall boot times.

A report from The Verge mentions that Xbox Series S/X owners will supposedly only be able to benefit from this update if they set their consoles to Energy Saver Mode. Unlike Standby mode, Energy Saver mode completely turns off the console. This mode is said to be energy efficient, but to the detriment of startup times.

Microsoft’s new Xbox Dashboard update is said to reduce cold boot times to around 15 seconds from around 20 seconds. This improvement should improve the appeal of power saving mode for players. The company has made Energy Saver mode the default option for Xbox consoles. It also added support for background update downloads with this mode.

Microsoft hasn’t revealed a year when this new feature might get a wider release.

In related news, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles in India have seen their price increase by around 6%. They are said to be priced at Rs. 52,990 and Rs. 36,990, respectively.
