WWDC 2023 confirmed: dates and what to expect

The Worldwide Developers Conference is one of the biggest events on Apple’s calendar, bringing together developers from around the world to learn about the next big software updates for the company’s hardware. She also gives fans a glimpse of what to expect later this year.

Here’s everything you need to know about WWDC 2023, including the day the famous keynote is due to take place and what to expect from this year’s virtual event.

When is WWDC 2023?

As confirmed by Apple in March, WWDC 2023 is scheduled to take place between June 5 – 9, 2023.

Apple has confirmed that it will hold a keynote on the first day of the conference, June 5, to officially unveil its biggest announcements. This year could include Apple’s highly anticipated AR/VR headset, iOS 17, iPadOS 17, tvOS 17, watchOS 10, macOS 14, and a few new Mac products.

Apple has yet to confirm when the keynote will take place, but we’ll update this article with the latest information as soon as we have it.

Where will WWDC 2023 take place?

Apple has traditionally hosted WWDC in San Jose, California, but like the past three years, Apple has moved to an online-only approach for WWDC.

The WWDC 2023 keynote, as well as all dev sessions, will be available via livestream – although the latter is exclusive to paid developers.

Like last year, a small number of developers and students can watch the keynote address and State of the Union videos at Apple Park on the day. The special one-day event will allow a select few to watch the platforms’ keynote and State of the Union videos at Apple headquarters alongside engineers and experts from Apple.

Guests get “…sessions, one-on-one labs, and opportunities to engage with Apple engineers and other developers,” according to Apple. Of course, that’s probably a ticket most developers would want, so Apple runs a lottery system that eligible people can apply for. This opportunity ends April 4, 2023.

What will Apple be announcing at WWDC 2023?

The big question is, what will Apple announce during its keynote at WWDC 2023? It’s no secret that Apple tends to release the next big updates to its various operating systems, but we might also see hardware releases this year, including a highly anticipated product…

Apple AR/VR Headset

According to Bloomberg, Apple’s long-awaited AR/VR headset could be teased, if not fully revealed at WWDC 2023.

Rumors for this new headset suggest it might be called Apple Reality Pro and cost around $3,000. The leaks also suggest it will feature a nearly identical 3D interface to an iPhone or iPad, have a similar design to the Meta Quest 2, feature dual Apple-designed chips, and include 8K displays.

It can also include technology that tracks eye movement, so it can only render high-quality graphics when the user is looking to save on computing needs.

Of course, there are rumors that Apple announced it at previous WWDC events, so we won’t know until the end of the day.

iOS17

iOS 17 will likely be another big announcement for most event attendees. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed that this update will bring some of the “most requested features” for iPhone users.

Some of these features include support for sideloading and alternative app stores, a new CarPlay experience, Siri improvements and more. Of course, that’s just speculation at this point.

iPadOS 17

iPadOS 17 is another update we’ll almost certainly see at WWDC 2023. Like iOS 17, there are rumors that it will include third-party app stores, as well as tweaks to apps and the layout of the app. ‘homepage.

iMore also speculates that Apple could bring its redesigned lock screen from iOS to iPadOS, allowing users more creativity with backgrounds, widgets and more.

tvOS 17, watchOS 10 and macOS 14

It’s also very likely that we’ll get our first glimpse of macOS 14, tvOS 17 and watchOS 10 at WWDC 2023 – but Apple has managed to keep the leaks to a minimum so far.

Mac Pro and 15-inch MacBook Air

There have also been rumors of a new Ultimate Desktop Mac launching this year, so WWDC would be a good place to announce it. This should support a new dedicated Apple chipset, as well as a revised design.

Also, people think the 15-inch MacBook Air might make a comeback this year, which might come with Apple’s M2 chip.
