Will Disney+ UK raise prices?

Disney+ has so far far exceeded its subscriber target for this year. However, the introduction of an ad-supported tier has changed pricing in the United States.

The question is, will the UK follow? We’ve rounded up everything we know so far about the possibility of Disney+’s price increases, along with estimates of how much we think they might change them. You can also check which Netflix package is best for you.

Will Disney+ UK raise prices?

Disney has already confirmed that international markets outside of the US (which most likely include the UK) will benefit from the new ad-supported tier. In this case, the prices are almost certain to change in a way similar to what they have in the United States.

When will Disney+ UK increase its prices?

The ad-supported tier is coming to the UK sometime in 2023 (exact month to be confirmed) which is when we estimate prices will change.

The ad-supported tier launched in the United States on December 8, 2022, and that’s when the price increase also happened.

Disney has already introduced regional price increases. For example, when the Star Library was introduced in the UK and Europe in February last year, Disney+ UK got a price increase – the US followed suit about a month later.

How much will the Disney+ UK price increase cost?

Here are the new Disney+ costs from December in America:

• Disney+ ad-free monthly subscription: increased from $7.99 per month to $10.99 per month
• Yearly Disney+ ad-free subscription: increased from $79.99 per year to $109.99 per year
• Disney+ ad-supported monthly subscription: $7.99 per month (no annual option offered)

Disney+ currently costs £7.99 per month and £79.90 in the UK – very similar costs to what was in place in America. Therefore, we expect Disney+ UK to grow by £3 per month and £30 per year – with the new costs for the ad-free plans being around £10.99 per month and £109.99 per year. As in the US, we also expect the ad-supported tier to cost the same as the current tier of £7.99 per month.

These are of course only speculations. Before that, Disney+ had a £2/$2 per month price increase and a £20/$20 per year increase in 2021. The new price increases are steeper, but that’s likely due to inflation , to rivals that are increasing their costs, and to the increase in content production in recent years.
