Why West Ham are unlikely to sign Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma

Zouma to leave Chelsea?

Kurt Zouma had a fairly mixed 2020/21 campaign. It began with the Frenchman a key figure under Frank Lampard.

However, when Thomas Tuchel took the reins in late January, Zouma began to see his game time reduced.

The Frenchman did not feature in Tuchel’s first five league games as Chelsea manager, and would go on to complete 90 minutes just seven times in the PL under his new boss.

Following his limited action under Tuchel, reports began to emerge in early July suggesting Zouma was expected to leave Chelsea this summer:

Later in the month, we would see West Ham United linked with the stopper by Sky Sports News:

Now though, an update on Tuesday suggests that Zouma to West Ham will not be happening this summer.

The update comes courtesy of Goal, who report that centre-back Nikola Milenkovic looks set to sign for the Hammers.

On the Zouma situation, Goal outline the reasons why West Ham are unlikley to be landing the 26-year-old, explaining that West Ham cannot afford to match either Chelsea’s £25m valuation, nor the defender’s current wages:

Goal has learned that the Blues are demanding £25 million ($35m) for Zouma, who was open to linking up with West Ham, but they cannot afford to match that valuation or his current wage packet at Stamford Bridge.
