Why Trent Alexander-Arnold & Joel Matip are missing for Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
Liverpool are set to play host to Crystal Palace very shortly. The tie is a 3 pm kick-off so will not be shown on TV in the UK.
Liverpool head into the game having enjoyed an unbeaten start to the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.
The Reds sit joint-top of the English top-flight after winning three and drawing one of their first four league games.
Liverpool would also see off AC Milan in a Champions League clash earlier this week.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, have endured a mixed start to the campaign. The Eagles struggled to score goals early on. However, they then netted two to earn a draw with West Ham, before causing a huge upset in smashing Tottenham 3-0 last Saturday.

Why Alexander-Arnold & Matip are missing vs Crystal Palace
Ahead of kick-off, Liverpool would of course release their starting line-up an hour before.
Jurgen Klopp made big changes in defence, with Kostas Tsimikas coming in at left-back for Andy Robertson and James Milner in at right-back for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Robertson was on the bench vs Palace and is presumably being given a rest. Trent, on the other hand, is omitted from the squad completely.
However, Liverpool have since provided an explanation for the defender’s absence, confirming he is out because of illness:
Here’s your Reds line-up for today’s meeting with @CPFC in the @PremierLeague…
Trent misses out through illness, while Joel Matip is rested.

It has been reported elsewhere that TAA’s illness is not Covid-19 related:
Trent out due to illness… not COVID-related. #LFC

Joel Matip is also out of the squad, but as confirmed by Liverpool above, he is only rested.
