Why Tottenham and West Ham are the biggest losers from the Carabao Cup 3rd Round draw.

Carabao Cup third round draw

The draw for the Carabao cup third round took place this evening, after the conclusion of the final rounds of the second round. Arsenal and Southampton eased into the third round with heavy wins over West Bromwich Albion and Newport County respectively, while they were joined by fellow Premier League side Burnley, who triumphed over Newcastle United on penalties.

The seven sides participating in European competitions this season are set to join the 25 sides that have qualified through the second round, taking the total pool of sides in the competition to 32.

And, as always, the draw threw up some mouthwatering ties.

Manchester United host West Ham

In perhaps the most intriguing storyline of the round, David Moyes will take his high-flying West Ham United to his former stomping ground Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

Moyes was cut loose after just one season with the Red Devils, but has taken the Hammers from relegation-threatened to the Europa League in the space of 18 months, impressing along the way.

There could be further intrigue added to the tie depending on the future of former West Ham loanee Jesse Lingard, who has returned to Manchester United. Were he to feature, he could get quite the reception.

The Nuno derby

Tottenham and Wolves have only just got over playing each other last weekend, but are set to lock horns at Molineux once again as they have been drawn against one another in the third round.

The tie could get tastier yet depending on the future of 25-year-old Adama Traore, who is subject to interest from Tottenham, and has just two years left to run on his current Wolves contract.

The Lilywhites, like Moyes, will have to handle a lukewarm reception as they head to the midlands.

Could he end up in white before the end of the window?

Other Games to watch out for

Chelsea vs Aston Villa

Liverpool Norwich

Arsenal vs Wimbledon

Manchester City vs Wycombe Wanderers

The ties will be played on the 21st and 22nd September.
