Why Podence & Dendoncker are absent for Wolves vs Newcastle
An explanation for the respective absences of Daniel Podence and Leander Dendoncker from Wolverhampton Wanderers’ matchday squad to face Newcastle United has been provided.
Bruno Lage’s troops are of course set to kick the weekend’s Premier League fixture list into gear in short order.
Fresh off the back of a bounce-back downing of Aston Villa last time out, Wolves have made the trip to St. James’ Park, for a meeting with the aforementioned Newcastle.
As alluded to above, though, the visitors’ efforts to make it four wins from their last five in the English top-flight will come without the talents of two key members of the club’s first-team squad.
The players in question? Daniel Podence and Leander Dendoncker.
Upon Wolves’ matchday squad being unveiled a short time ago, neither attacker Podence or versatile midfielder Dendoncker were anywhere to be seen:

An explanation for the respective absences of both players on Tyneside, though, has since been provided.
As per the reliable Tim Spiers of The Athletic, Dendoncker has come down with a bout of unspecified illness, whilst Podence misses out with a foot injury:
