Why Newcastle’s fans were fuming with Ivan Toney during Brentford clash
The Newcastle United faithful have taken to social media in numbers this afternoon, to take aim at former hitman Ivan Toney.
Lascelles on target
The Magpies are of course currently locked in action.
In their first outing post-international break, the newly-minted Tynesiders welcomed Brentford to St. James’ Park, for a Premier League showdown.
Newcastle headed into proceedings sans the services of new boss Eddie Howe, who was yesterday confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19.
The hosts, though, didn’t allow such a blow to stop them from opening the scoring inside ten minutes, as Jamaal Lascelles connected with Matt Ritchie’s whipped corner from close range.
9/9 – All nine of Jamaal Lascelles’ Premier League goals have been headed – the biggest 100% such ratio in Premier League history. Noggin. #NEWBRE

Just minutes later, however, it was 1-1.
The aforementioned Toney proved the man on target on this occasion, drilling home from Sergi Canos’ flick inside the Newcastle area to bring the elated home crowd at St. James’ firmly back down to earth.
But Toney’s strike itself did not prove the only aspect of his actions on Tyneside which proved effective in riling up the Magpies faithful.
This came with the hitman, who managed just two Premier League appearances for Newcastle across a 3-year spell with the club earlier in his career, having made his feelings clear by kissing the Brentford badge in front of the home crowd:

It should therefore not come as too much of a surprise to hear of the Geordie faithful since taking to social media to take aim at their one-time striker, with some of the Twitter highlights showcased below:
