Why Jesse Lingard is missing Manchester United’s meeting with Everton
Man United vs Everton
Manchester United are set to play out their final pre-season friendly of 2021 on Saturday afternoon.
United have so far taken part in three pre-season friendlies this summer.
The Red Devils kicked off their preparation for the 2021/22 campaign with a 2-1 win over Wayne Rooney’s Derby County.
United then faced off with QPR on July 24th but would lose the tie 4-2 thanks to goals from Charlie Austin, Moses Odbubajo and a brace from Lyndon Dykes.
A fairly weak Manchester United side then hosted Premier League new boys Brentford last Wednesday and were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw. Anthony Elanga and Andreas Pereira were on the scoresheet that night for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Everton, though, should represent their strongest test of pre-season to date.
Why Lingard missed out vs Everton
And, unlike in the aforementioned ties, we should see a number of Man United’s top stars back on Saturday.
Man United have already confirmed that Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial will start the game.
One player who will, however, not be featuring against the Toffees is Jesse Lingard.
The midfielder had featured in all three of United’s previous games this summer and even scored against QPR.
However, as Man United have confirmed, Lingard is unavailable on Saturday due to him testing positive for Covid-19:
Unfortunately, Jesse Lingard is unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19. He is isolating in line with Government and Premier League Guidelines.

Two players who will definitely not be featuring on Saturday are Jadon Sancho and Edinson Cavani, with both expected to return to training next week.
