Why Andreas Christensen hasn’t been playing for Chelsea
Andreas Christensen had a solid start to the 2021/22 campaign, slotting in well at the centre of Chelsea’s three-man defence.
However, the Dane has not made an appearance in any of the Blues’ last three outings across all competitions, with the veteran defender Thiago Silva instead, somewhat surprisingly, starting all three games.
Silva is a quality defender, but at 37 it is probably not the best idea for him to be playing every single game for Chelsea, which is why Christensen’s absence from the eleven is even more strange.
Now though, an explanation for Christensen missing out has been provided by football.london’s Adam Newson who Tweeted:

Jorginho contract update
Christensen, along with Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger are all out of contract in the summer.
Elsewhere, Jorginho will only have one year left on his Chelsea deal by the time the summer of 2022 rolls around.
Despite this, Jorginho’s agent recently claimed that they have not opened talks over a new deal yet:
“We’re not in talks to extend the current deal with Chelsea. He’s still under contract until June 2023 – maybe we’ll open talks in the next months.”
