Where to pre-order the PlayStation VR2 in the US and UK

In 2016, Sony announced its arrival in the world of virtual reality with the launch of the original PlayStation VR. It was the first headset designed for use with a games console, and no alternative has emerged since.

Although the original PS VR was compatible with the PS5 (provided you requested the separate adapter), there was always an expectation that we would have a successor designed specifically for the new console.

It’s become a reality, with the now official PlayStation VR 2. It’s a significant refresh, with key upgrades including a new OLED display, wider 110-degree field of view, and support for 120Hz and 4K HDR.

There is still some time until the release of the device, but pre-orders are now live in many countries around the world. If you’re based in the US or UK, here’s everything you need to know.

When will PlayStation VR2 be released?

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation VR2 will be released on February 22, 2023.

It may seem like a long way off, but pre-orders are already live. It’s likely to be very popular, so we encourage you to get one ASAP if you’re interested.

How much will PlayStation VR2 cost?

In short, a lot. Not only is the PS VR2 significantly more expensive than its predecessor ($349/£349), it actually costs more than the PS5 itself ($499/£479).

Sony’s recommended retail price is $549.99/£529.99, which is the amount you’ll pay if you decide to pre-order. This includes the headset itself, plus two Sense controllers and a stereo headset.

If you want a bundle that includes Horizon Call of the Mountain, one of the launch titles, it’ll cost you $599 / £569. A dock to charge controllers costs an additional $49 / £39.

Where to pre-order the PlayStation VR2

If you are based in the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg, pre-orders are limited to the PlayStation Direct store during this “initial launch phase”. This applies to the headset itself, as well as accessories and launch games.

In November, you had to sign up and hope you were invited to pre-order via email. But that has now changed, so anyone can buy one from Sony’s website.

Just make sure you’re signed in to the same account you use for PlayStation Network.

Sony does not specify how long this “initial launch phase” will last. It may stretch until the headset is released in February 2023, or other retailers may offer pre-orders by then.

Either way, signing up now will give you the best chance of getting PS VR2 on release day. However, it’s worth noting that Sony says PlayStation Direct store orders “will ship throughout launch week.”

If you’re not based in one of the seven countries listed above, Sony says the PlayStation VR2 is sold at “participating retailers”. Pre-orders are live now, but it’s unclear which retailers are actually letting you pick one up now. It’s worth checking all the most popular gaming hardware websites in your country to see if it’s available there.
