When Edinson Cavani is set to return to Manchester and what it means for availability vs Leeds

An insight into Edinson Cavani’s predicted Manchester United return date has been forthcoming on Monday evening.

Reds back on song

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. are of course currently in the midst of their final preparations for the new campaign.

The Red Devils played out the last of their pre-season outings over the weekend, making short work of a disappointing Everton en route to a 4-0 final scoreline.

Mason Greenwood, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes were all on target, with the latter having stolen the show courtesy of a stunning free-kick:

As such, with deals for Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane having also been secured, it is safe to say that spirits are high on the red half of Manchester ahead of the 2021/22 campaign getting underway.

Cavani incoming

One potential issue for boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this weekend, however, comes up top.

United are set to get their season underway on Saturday, in a highly-anticipated Premier League showdown with Leeds United. With just five days to go before the Old Trafford showpiece, though, the Red Devils are facing something of a personnel crisis in attack.

First off, Marcus Rashford remains in the early stages of his recovery from shoulder surgery. Anthony Martial, meanwhile, remains some way off full fitness on the back of his own spell on the sidelines, whilst summer addition Jadon Sancho only began an individual training programme at Carrington earlier today.

It will therefore no doubt come as altogether concerning from a Reds perspective to learn that Edinson Cavani, who spent time at the Copa America with Uruguay this summer, is not expected to arrive back in Manchester until Thursday.

The veteran attacker’s partner recently gave birth, with Cavani likely to have been handed extra time off to spend with his family as a result.

With it as of yet unclear whether he will be forced to undergo a period of quarantine, though, it does not appear out of the question that Cavani could yet miss out altogether versus Leeds.
