WhatsApp rolls out text editor features to Android beta testers: report

WhatsApp has long been reported to run on a text editing feature. It was previously reported that the feature has been tested on Android and iOS platforms. According to a new report, the feature is being rolled out to select beta testers. However, the feature will currently only be available for WhatsApp users on Android. Since the iOS version has already been tested, it should be rolling out soon. The social media platform is also reportedly working on a post edit feature.

A WABetaInfo post from WhatsApp’s update tracker says that WhatsApp’s new creative tools will help users edit images, videos and GIFs using new tools and fonts offered with the new feature. The text editor is now available to select beta testers with Android 2.23.7.17 update.

The feature would offer users the ability to quickly switch between fonts by tapping on one of the font options displayed above the keyboard. Although it was previously possible to change the text font, WhatsApp would now allow users to quickly choose the font they want. According to the report, text alignment can now also be set to left, center or right, giving users more control over text formatting in images, videos and GIFs.

Users will also be able to change the text background color with this new feature, making it easier to distinguish important text from the rest. Calistoga, Courier Prime, Damion, Exo 2 and Morning Breeze are among the new fonts made available to beta testers, the report adds.

The WABetainfo report adds that WhatsApp will start rolling out the text editing feature to more users in the coming weeks. The similar feature has also been tested on iOS devices, so it’s safe to say that an iOS version of the text-editing feature will soon be available for beta testers.

A recent report suggested that WhatsApp is also testing an edit message feature with a dedicated alert that will be visible to all chat participants. An edited post will appear with an “edited” tag, similar to how deleted post tags are currently visible in chats.
