WhatsApp for iOS gains picture-in-picture mode for video calls

After being in beta for a few months, picture-in-picture mode during video calls on WhatsApp is now widely available. It draws a floating window with your video call over other apps, when the app is minimized. The feature is part of the iOS version v23.3.77 just out.
In addition to PiP, the changelog mentions a few other upgrades. You can add captions when sending documents, create custom avatars and use them as stickers in chats. Support for longer descriptions for groups is also added. A phased rollout should bring new functionality to all users.
In the meantime, WhatsApp is working on a toggle to send high-quality images. Instead of the standard compression, you can opt for the HD version which applies lighter compression.
