What Tottenham’s move for Pape Sarr means for Nahitan Nandez interest
An insight into the knock-on effect of Tottenham Hotspur’s move for Pape Matar Sarr on the club’s other endeavours on the transfer front has been forthcoming on Friday evening.
Metz man incoming
The headline news on the Lilywhite half of North London today has of course come in the form of the potential arrival of Metz sensation Sarr.
Just hours on from word surfacing that Tanguy Ndombele has set his sights on a departure from the English capital, confirmation arrived that Daniel Levy and co. had sanctioned a move for Sarr.
The 18-year-old midfield all-rounder has long been viewed as one of the finest up-and-coming talents in France, with his breakthrough season in 2020/21 having caught the eye of more than one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
Earlier this week, all of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea were named as keen on Sarr’s signature.
As confirmed by the reliable David Ornstein, though, it is Spurs who are now ‘nearing an agreement’ with Metz, with the Senegalese international himself eyeing a move to England.
🚨 Tottenham nearing agreement with Metz for Pape Sarr but NOT done (clubs or player). Talks with 3/4 other PL teams + Atalanta. #Metz prefer sale at lower fee & loan back but would take higher price + no loan. 18yo midfielder wants PL @TheAthleticUK #THFC https://t.co/SjAaKnySIV

Nandez ruled out
With Sarr of course only at the beginning of his fledgling career, and Ndombele’s future now so uncertain, though, the Spurs faithful had likely called into question whether yet another midfielder could make yet his way to North London before the window slams shut later this month.
If the latest word stemming from the media on Friday evening is anything to go by, though, then such an outcome looks altogether unlikely.
As per a report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, if, as expected, Spurs seal a move for Sarr over the coming days, then a move for another midfielder long tipped to link up with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will be ruled out.
The player in question? Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez.
Tottenham have definitely decided to leave negotiations with Cagliari for Nahitan Nández – contacts now started with Metz for Pape Matar Sarr as reported by @JorisCrolbois, not done or imminent yet. ⚪️ #THFC
Spurs will decide soon on Sarr deal – price tag around €12m.
