What My Father Did When I Told Him I Was Gay — Journalist Chisom
Nigerian journalist, Chisom Peter Job has narrated his encounter with his father where he opened up on his sexuality to him.
In a series of tweets he made on his page, Chisom disclosed that he was afraid to tell his dad he was gay as he though he wouldn’t love him anymore, however, he assured him and it felt like a weight has been taken from him.
He said he explained to his father why he wouldn’t marry and his father coughed and said, ‘I have always known’ and like his mom, he told him he knew and was waiting for him to open up to him when he was ready. “I’m glad you are telling me now, and nothing will stop me from loving you,’ he said.
Part of his tweet reads;
At that moment, I wished I could hug him from the phone. But I did tell him how much I loved him, and he told me how much he loved me too. ‘nothing will change that, and I’ll always be proud of you.’’
Today, I am reminded of how lucky I am with the parents I have, of how they’ll always love me. Pa said, “be who you are”, and I’ll always keep this in mind.
Reacting to his narration an IG user @chidoxflash wrote;
I am just wondering how the father felt hearing that. No father will be happy to realize that his child is a gay… Not just a gay but a proud one! The man may have shown his support but deep down him he will be asking God questions
