West Ham squad assessment: Who should they keep, who should they sell?
West Ham had a solid 2021/22 campaign. They would miss out on the Europa League final and slipped down to 7th in the Premier League. However, they still have European football next term and are expected to continue to battle the top six under David Moyes.
However, it is obvious that West Ham need a good summer to continue fighting at their current level.
Now, ahead of the summer window officially opening, 101 have taken a look at every senior West Ham player and decided if they should be kept or sold.
Goalkeepers
Alphonse Areola
Was a useful back-up option and did well in Europe but is now set to return from his loan to PSG and is probably not worth the fee he will demand as he would not be the Hammers’ no.1

Lukasz Fabianski
Remains a solid option for West Ham even if he is coming to the end of his career.
Verdict: Keep
Darren Randolph
A great third-choice with plenty of Premier League experience.
Verdict: Keep
Defenders
Ben Johnson
Really come into his own over the last several months, Johnson is a great back-up for Coufal and his ability to play left-back is useful.
Verdict: Keep
Ryan Fredericks
Out of contract at the end of June and there is little benefit to keeping him as he would only be the Hammers’ third-choice right-back.
Verdict: Sell
Vladimir Coufal
Continues to excel for the Hammers, should be kept at all costs.
Verdict: Keep
Kurt Zouma
One of West Ham’s best central defenders when fit enough. Must be kept.

Issa Diop
Another solid centre-back option when his is available.
Verdict: Keep
Craig Dawson
Has the odd error in him but he remains a quality centre-back who has shone both domestically and in Europe.
Verdict: Keep
Angelo Ogbonna
Given his age and injury issues it may have been time to move the Italian on this summer. However, given West Ham’s lack of options in this area, it may be worth keeping him around.

Arthur Masuaku
Not up to the quality required for a side who have European ambitions.
Verdict: Sell
Aaron Creswell
Solid left-back with an excellent set-piece delivery. Should continue to shine with some proper competition.
Verdict: Keep
Midfielders
Declan Rice
He is obviously West Ham’s MVP and must be kept at the club. If not, they have to get a premium fee for him.
Verdict: Keep
Tomas Soucek
A great partner for Rice, offering an aerial threat at both ends of the pitch.
Verdict: Keep
Alex Kral
Decent back-up option for Rice and Soucek but will need some more help covering in midfield now Mark Nobel has gone.
Verdict: Keep
Nikola Vlasic
Has been less than impressive since his move to east London. He scored just one and assisted just three in 36 games last term. He must be sold and improved upon if West Ham want to continue pushing for Europe.

Pablo Fornals
A creative player who is pretty versatile and able to play across the midfield line.
Verdict: Keep
Manuel Lanzini
Like Vlasic, Lanzini simply hasn’t shown enough quality to warrant staying at West Ham now they are a top-seven team.
Verdict: Sell
Forwards
Said Benrahma
Blows hot and cold in terms of form but he is creative, has a goal in him and can operate up front.
Verdict: Keep
Jarrod Bowen
With 12 goals and 12 assists in 36 league games in 2021/22, it is easy to see why the likes of Liverpool have been showing an interest in Bowen. He is West Ham’s biggest attacking threat and the main reason they secured 7th place last season.
Verdict: Keep
Michail Antonio
Injury and age does look to be catching up with Antonio. However, he still scored 13 and assisted 11 in 47 games last campaign. Should be kept but West Ham really need to bring in a second striker this summer.
