West Ham: Milenkovic deal ‘edging closer’ & talks opened for Liverpool’s Origi

A pair of updates surrounding the efforts of Premier League outfit West Ham United on the transfer front have been forthcoming over the last 24 hours.

Viola star incoming?

The first surrounds the Hammers’ long-time pursuit of Nikola Milenkovic.

Fiorentina defender Milenkovic has of course been tipped as a potential arrival at the London Stadium throughout the summer.

As David Moyes eyes up much-needed reinforcements to his backline ahead of a season in Europe, the 23-year-old is understood to have been identified as the ideal target.

Milenkovic has long established himself as one of the finest young stoppers in Serie A, and managed starts in all but four of Fiorentina’s league outings last season.

If the latest word doing the rounds in the media on Monday is anything to go by, however, then it appears as though the Viola will soon be forced to bid farewell to their up-and-coming central defender.

As per a report from Sky Sports, West Ham are ‘edging closer’ to Milenkovic’s signing, with a deal worth a fee in the region of £14 million close to being agreed.

This cut-price sum comes with the Serbian’s contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi due to expire next summer.

Reds hitman eyed

The board at the London Stadium, however, appear far from done there.

With Michail Antonio the only true attacking spearhead at David Moyes’ disposal for the upcoming campaign, the capital outfit are also understood to be on the lookout for reinforcements up top.

And, according to the latest reports, a new name has emerged as the front-runner to fill this role in 2021/22.

The player in question? Divock Origi.

Liverpool hitman Origi is fresh off the back of another disappointing campaign at Anfield, which saw the Belgian rack up a paltry total of 182 minutes of Premier League football.

A Merseyside departure, in turn, has been persistently touted this summer, with West Ham, according to Football Insider, ready to take advantage of the situation.

The Irons are said to have opened preliminary talks with their counterparts at Liverpool, with ‘a recruitment source having told Football Insider that West Ham head the clubs working on a cut-price raid for Origi.’

An offer of around £15 million is expected to prove enough to coax the Reds into a sale.
