West Ham’s defence hit hard

West Ham have had a superb start to the 2021/22 campaign.

The Hammers are currently 4th in the Premier League and have picked up some impressive wins over Liverpool and Chelsea.

However, both of those wins would come at a price to their backline. Firstly, vs Liverpool, Angelo Ogbonna would suffer a knee injury, which has ruled him out for the season:

Then, after seeing off Chelsea this past weekend, Kurt Zouma suffered an injury which could keep him out for up to 12 weeks.

West Ham eyeing centre-back cover

With West Ham fighting for a top-four spot and still going strong in Europe, the Hammers cannot really afford to have two key senior central defenders out of action.

Now though, the Londoners are seemingly going to bring in some much-needed defensive reinforcements this winter.

As per the Evening Standard:

West Ham are ready to back David Moyes to sign defensive cover for Kurt Zouma in January after he was ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a serious hamstring injury.

In the report, both Liverpool’s Nathaniel Phillips and Burnley’s James Tarkowski are said to have been considered.

Nathan Ake is also named as someone who has interested West Ham, but the ES suggest it will be hard to secure a deal for a player who cost Manchester City £40m:
