Week 50 in review: Galaxy S23 Ultra details arrive, Oppo Find N2/Flip official

Welcome to our recap of the 50th week of 2022, just two to go!

This week, Oppo launched the Find N2 and N2 Flip. The Find N2 is an evolution of the Find N with a thinner and lighter body, a new hinge, a better camera system and a much better display among other things. The Find N2 features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, a faster charging battery (67W) and a 120Hz cover screen. The Find N2 will be available in China at the moment without any word on worldwide availability.

What’s going global is Oppo’s Find N2 Flip, which is a whole new class of device for Oppo. It has a fairly large 3.62-inch cover display (a 60Hz, 382 x 720 pixel OLED panel) and an internal 6.8-inch 120Hz display, while processing is handled by the Dimensity 9000+. The camera setup is a 50 MP main module (same 1/1.56″ IMX890 sensor) and an 8 MP ultrawide unit (112°, IMX355). The MariSilicon X chip is integrated to handle the processing. ‘Oppo Find N2 Flip is scheduled for worldwide release, full details will be available later.

Xiaomi has announced MIUI 14, the latest operating system based on Android 13 for Xiaomi devices. Xiaomi says it’s the most optimized and streamlined MIUI yet and it starts with Project Razor. The team behind MIUI 14 has updated the Android kernel-level system architecture with CPU, GPU and memory resource planning, lighter system firmware size and reduced memory usage. Xiaomi claims that MIUI 14 runs 60% smoother than its predecessor on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro will be the first devices to launch with MIUI 14 on December 14. Xiaomi also shared its official update schedule for China which includes 11 devices in January and four more in April.

Motorola unveiled the Moto X40 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 165Hz OLED display, IP68 water resistance, 4,600mAh battery with 125W charging and 15W wireless charging. X40 is equipped with a 50MP (1/1.56″) sensor with OIS and 1.0µm pixels. Next to the main camera is an ultra-wide angle (117°) lens with a 50 MP sensor (1.0µm pixels). 3 µm). This has autofocus, allowing it to take macro images from 2.5 cm/1″. Also on board is a 2x portrait camera with a 12MP sensor (IMX663, 1.22µm pixels). For selfies, there’s a 60MP selfie camera with a centered punch hole. The Motorola Moto X40 is on pre-order in China right now, shipping is expected to start on December 22.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has been detailed via a TENAA listing. The phone measures 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9mm and weighs 233g – the same dimensions as the outgoing S22 Ultra. The battery is also the same at 5,000mAh. The cameras weren’t listed, so we didn’t have confirmation on the alleged new 200MP sensor (1/1.3″, 0.6µm, 12MP default resolution). The main camera would finally make the jump to the 8K @ 30fps video (previous models stick to 24fps cinematic).

The Samsung Unpacked event will take place in the first week of February, according to inside information, the launch should take place a few weeks later at the end of February.
