Wear OS 3 update for Skagen Falster Gen 6 begins rolling out
A new Fossil-branded smartwatch is now getting the Wear OS 3 update. The Skagen Falster Gen 6 was announced about a year ago in early 2022 and it launched with the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform. The smartwatch has been promised the new update since its initial launch and despite an original timeline of H2 2022, the update arrived about a few weeks late.

Users in a Reddit thread posted information about the ongoing update. One owner reported that there are fewer Skagen watch faces and none of the Pixel Watch faces are available with the update. Apparently there are only 8 Skagen faces. Others report missing features here and there. Like the October update for Fossil Gen 6, Google Assistant is missing from the update. This is due to some hardware limitations of Wear OS 3 and Google Assistant. Currently, the assistant is only available on Wear OS 3 watches that run Samsung’s Exynos wearable chipsets.
A user claims the update contains the same build number as Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches, which received the same update in October. Another user’s first impressions mention that the user interface is smoother and faster, and there is no noticeable difference in battery life. Another person said connectivity and app options have improved on iOS.

If you want to download the Wear OS 3 update for this smartwatch, be aware that all user data on the smartwatch will be erased and you will need to configure the watch with the new Skagen companion app. As mentioned earlier, you will also lose access to using Google Assistant on your wrist. We hope Google will work with Qualcomm and do what it needs to bring Assistant back. Alexa is also available as an alternative voice assistant.
