“We are back” Barcelona president issues massive transfer update after Torres deal

Barcelona add Ferran Torres

It has been an odd few months for Barcelona.

Forced to let their greatest ever player leave for free in a tearful farewell, just three months later they announced the signing of Ferran Torres in a deal worth up to 65 million euros.

The Spaniard, who joins Barca after 18 months with Manchester City, has signed a deal until 2027 with a release clause of 1 billion euros, joining both Pedri and Gavi in having their release clauses set so high.

Ironically, in a repeat of the Messi issue in the summer, the club at present cannot register Torres until they are able to let players leave the club first, making talk of debuts premature.

But now, the club have issued a warning to other clubs.

Laporta claims Barcelona are back

Speaking at Torres’ unveiling, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was quizzed on the possibility of adding further big additions to their side.

And, in almost unbelievable fashion, he claimed:

“Everybody in the world should get ready, as we are back as big players in the market. Barça are back”.

For a club that was in a horrid mess just months ago and losing money hand over fist, any recovery stretches the imagination, and makes you wonder just what deals they have struck and how it may come back to bite them in the long term.
