“We Are All So Proud of You”- Michelle Obama Pens an Emotional Message for Sha’Carri Richardson
Sha’Carri Richardson battled pressure from all sides as she fought through to come first at the Olympic trials for 100m for the USA, clocking in at 10.86 seconds to cement her position as the favorite bet to win the gold medal at Tokyo.
The athlete was the star of the show and had all the spotlights on her as she broke down in the post-race interview. After all was said and done, she revealed that she had lost her biological mother a week before the race but had not let this information out to the public.
“Nobody knows what I go through. Everyone has struggled and I understand but y’all see me on this track and y’all see the poker face I put on but nobody but them and my coach know what I go through to on a day-to-day basis and I’m highly grateful for them,” an emotion Richardson said.
“Without them, there would be no me. Without my grandmother, there would be no Sha’Carri Richardson. So my family is my everything, my everything till the day I’m done.”

These words not only spoke of an athlete but of a strong human mind that has battled through all the odds to get to where she is. Her words fell strongly on the ears of another prominent personality, Michelle Obama.
In a post on Twitter, the former First Lady of the United States praised Richardson for her demeanor. Admitting she had not seen the race, Obama lauded the athlete for her grace and grit in revealing such unfortunate news. “We are all so proud of you, Sha’Carri! Can’t wait to see what you do in Tokyo,” Obama added.

Family means everything to Sha’Carri Richardson. If it wasn’t evident in the interview itself, she even made it a point to run to her grandmother after the race.

Completing the job, Richardson was seen rushing up the stairs of the stadium to get to her grandmother and embrace her. The heartwarming moment was met with applause from all those present.
As one of the fastest women in America right now, Richardson will be aiming at the Olympic gold. She is the country’s youngest and biggest hope for the medal and will undoubtedly be looking to make history at Tokyo and win a medal that the USA has not been able to clinch since 1996.
