Like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9200 uses ARM Cortex-X3 with a main core clocked at 3.05 Ghz (compared to 3.2 GHz on the SD G2) and based on the ARMv9 architecture . The remaining cores are: 3 Arm Cortex-A715 performance cores clocked at 2.85 GHz and 4 Arm Cortex-A510 efficiency cores at 1.8 GHz.

The new chip is fabricated on the TSMC 4nm 2nd Generation (N4P) process and features the ARM Immortalis-G715 GPU with its hardware-based ray tracing engine.

With the specs out of the way, let’s move on to the benchmark results. Remember that the X90 Pro has a 1260 x 2800 pixel screen while some of the other phones on the list run at lower/higher resolutions. Our review unit comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and boots Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13.

start with Geek Bench 5 CPU test – the X90 Pro pulled off an impressive 4,273 multi-core and 1,387 single-core points. The single-core score is neck and neck with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Galaxy S23 Ultra and Red Magic 8 Pro, while the multi-core department sees a more substantial lead, especially with the Red Magic 8 Pro. Admittedly, the Red Magic 8 has a substantial cooling system with a built-in fan. The Dimensity 9200 offers substantial gains over its predecessor (Dimensity 9000+) found in the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate.

GPU-specific tests were run in GFXBench showcasing the power of the new ARM Immortalis-G715 which ranked second in all onscreen tests just behind the Red Magic 8. The Dimensity was also neck and neck with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones in offscreen tests .

In summary, the Dimensity 9200 is a true flagship chipset and a worthy rival to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Our benchmarks show it to be around 30% faster in CPU benchmarks compared to the outgoing Dimensity 9000+ and 20% faster in the GPU department.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 edges the Dimensity 9200 chip in most cases, but always keep in mind that synthetic benchmarks are not indicative of actual performance. We’re also expecting more Dimensity 9200 phones to launch later this year and it’ll be interesting to see how they fare in these tests.
