Video: Major fire breaks out at venue for England’s meeting with Andorra

Altogether concerning footage of developments at the stadium where England are due to face off with Andorra in 24 hours’ time has come to the fore online this afternoon.

The road to Qatar

Gareth Southgate’s men are set to get their qualification campaign for next year’s World Cup back underway on Saturday night.

The Three Lions already have one foot firmly planted at the Qatar showpiece, sitting pretty atop the Group I table with 16 points from an available 18.

England’s only slip-up thus far came last time out, when a last-gasp injury-time equaliser saw Southgate and co. forced to settle for a share of the spoils in a meeting with Poland.

And this weekend’s fixture provides the perfect opportunity for the English to get things swiftly back on track.

Minnows Andorra currently sit 2nd-from-bottom in Group I, having slipped to defeat in five of their six outings thus far.

Chaos at the Nacional

As outlined above, though, with just over 24 hours to go ahead of the action getting underway in Andorra la Vella, an altogether concerning development has been forthcoming.

As can be seen in the footage below, a major fire this afternoon broke out at the Estadi Nacional, the host venue for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier.

The blaze, the origin of which remains unknown, is understood to have since been taken under control, and put out.

It now remains to be seen, though, whether the situation has any repercussions for the clash between England and Andorra.
