Liverpool starlet Neco Williams has turned heads throughout the club’s fanbase on Monday, after taking to social media to unveil footage of himself netting a remarkable solo effort in a friendly clash.
Origi amongst those on target
With so many members of Jurgen Klopp’s squad having of course seen their preparations for the new season interrupted by commitments on the international stage this summer, the Reds opted to organise a behind-closed-doors friendly fixture on Sunday evening.
The clash in question saw Liverpool take on a heavily alternated Aston Villa outfit.
A number of first-team stars featured for the Merseysiders, including the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Divock Origi.
The latter, who was actually on the bench for the club’s Premier League season opener versus Norwich, opened the game’s scoring, with all of Neco Williams, Curtis Jones and 16-year-old sensation Kaide Gordon having been on target, too.
The matchup, in turn, saw Liverpool ultimately run out 4-1 winners.
As outlined above, though, whilst the club’s supporters will no doubt be delighted to hear that key midfielders Thiago and Henderson came through the action unscathed, it is actually another of those to have featured on Sunday who has since grabbed the headlines.
The player in question? Neco Williams.
Welsh full-back Williams is fresh off a difficult campaign at Anfield, which saw him afforded just three Premier League starts by Jurgen Klopp.
His remarkable efforts to find the net yesterday evening, though, will have done the 20-year-old’s chances of featuring on a more consistent basis over the season to come absolutely no harm.
This comes with Williams, as showcased below, having done superbly to intercept a pass in midfield, before driving a rasping effort off the base of the far post.
The stopper, however, did not allow the close call to dampen his spirits, immediately latching onto the rebound, turning an opposing Villa defender inside out, and picking out the top corner with a pinpoint strike, this time with his left foot:
