Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, has been at loggerheads with UFC on pay issues for quite a while now. He has been out of action since UFC 247, where he defended his belt against Dominick Reyes.

Although he hasn’t fought for a long time, that hasn’t stopped him from keeping himself in the best possible shape for his impending heavyweight debut. ‘Bones’ has already made his intentions clear he wants to fight for the heavyweight title in his first match.

Recently, Jones released a series of training videos online. In those clips, fans can see the former light heavyweight kingpin sharpening his kills in presence of his trainers.

‘Bones’ has kept his training limited to weightlifting, physical fitness, and weight gaining for now. According to him, once he achieves the physical standards of competing in the heavyweight division, he will move to the martial arts side.

The video started with Jones working on his cardio skills with some reverse running on a treadmill. The former champ spent some considerable time honing his cardio skill.

He then moved on to weight lifting for strength work. ‘Bones’ worked on his back and upper body strength with this exercise. The video then showed Jones returning to the treadmill but this time, he used conventional running rather than the reverse.

The elite fighter then moved on to a brief session of spinning back kicks before settling himself in doing pushups. The last part of the video showed Jones working on his punching game. His trainer helped him in practicing some uppercuts and jabs.

Jon Jones wants to return to action when he is good and ready

Jones (26-1) was all set for a clash with Francis Ngannou, who defeated Stipe Miocic at UFC 260. Unfortunately, his fallout with the promotion’s management team resulted in him getting sidelined. Hence, Derrick Lewis overtook him as the number one contender.

White even offered ‘Bones’ a fight against a returning Miocic, but the latter declined the offer. He decided to play the waiting game and in the meantime, appointed a new advisor to bridge the gap in thoughts between him and the UFC management.

‘Bones’, however, is in no mood to return to action soon. In a recent retweet, the veteran replied to a fan and wrote, “I know lots of them do, that’s why I’m not going to allow anyone to rush me. Becoming a heavy weight is a serious process. Not many people understands what it takes to do it the right way. I’ll be back when I’m good and ready.”
