Portugal and Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo showed his class this evening, in making the night of a young Irish fan.

Spoils shared

CR7 was of course back in action a short time ago.

In their latest qualifying outing ahead of next year’s Qatar World Cup, A Selecao made the trip to Dublin, for a meeting with the rejuvenated Republic of Ireland.

The last time the two nations faced off, at the Estadio Algarve back in September, a late brace from the aforementioned Ronaldo broke Irish hearts, in a 2-1 Portuguese triumph.

This time round, however, the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner was kept in check by some rugged defending on the part of the hosts.

Ronaldo did, inevitably, come closest to bagging the only goal of a hard-fought affair, but his headed effort midway through the 2nd-half sailed agonisingly past the far post:

As outlined above, though, despite his presumed disappointment with the eventual outcome at the Aviva Stadium, Portugal’s star man was nevertheless sure to make the dreams of one young fan come true.

After the full-time whistle sounded in the Irish capital, a young member of the home crowd managed to make her way onto the pitch, before making a beeline for Ronaldo.

And the 36-year-old, in turn, showed little hesitance in bringing the Irish supporter in for a hug.

Not only that, but he went on to hand his match-worn jersey over to the young girl, too, in just the latest in a long line of classy gestures on the part of one of world football’s greatest-ever players:
