Verizon tackles Switches with new Welcome Unlimited plan discount

Verizon is making some small tweaks to its cheapest unlimited plan in its latest offering to attract new users. The carrier has announced that it will offer a “limited time” offer that will drop the price of its Welcome Unlimited offer by $5 per month, comparing it more closely to competing Essentials and Base Essentials offers from T-Mobile. The new contract starts on Friday.

In addition to the cheaper price, Verizon also notes that those who take advantage of this deal will get a “three-year price guarantee.” T-Mobile has touted its own “price lock” promise that it won’t increase its plan price on a variety of its newer plans.

Verizon’s change is available to new Welcome Unlimited users. As part of the offer, the prices will be as follows (assuming automatic payments and dematerialization of invoicing are implemented):

• 1 line: $60 per month (instead of $65)
• 2 lines: $50 per line, per month (instead of $55 per line, per month)
• 3 lines: $35 per line, per month (instead of $40 per line, per month)
• 4+ lines: $25 per line, per month (instead of $30 per line, per month for four lines)

The offer is not available to existing Welcome Unlimited users. If you have Welcome Unlimited at the moment, you are locked in with the rate you have. If you have Welcome Unlimited and wish to add a line, however, the new line – and only the new line – will be discounted at the above rate.

First introduced in July, the Welcome Unlimited plan is Verizon’s answer to T-Mobile’s cheaper Essentials and Base Essentials plans. It includes unlimited calls, texts, and data, but there are no perks like the free Disney bundle (Disney Plus, ESPN Plus, and Hulu), and it comes with a handful of other restrictions that you don’t need. should be kept in mind.

For one thing, all lines in the account will need to be on that plan – you can’t “mix and match” lines on a family plan that would have gotten you benefits like the Disney Bundle from one line. while getting the cheapest rate over others. There is no discount on upgrading to new phones while on Welcome Unlimited; you will need to bring your own device or pay full price for the upgrade.

And while you get unlimited calls, texts, and data, those on Welcome Unlimited don’t have access to Verizon’s fastest version of 5G (what the carrier calls “5G Ultra Wideband”) and don’t have no access to mobile hotspot.

The new offer comes as Verizon seeks to reverse a recent string of poor results that saw customers flee its network for different providers. The carrier had been busy raise prices earlier in the year, and customers left accordingly. In his last trimester, the carrier reported a loss of 189,000 postpaid wireless phone users.
