Update on Kieran Tierney as Mikel Arteta cannot guarantee timeline for return

Tierney set for further time on the sideline

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta can be happy with the performance of his young Gunners as they raided the King Power Stadium for the full three-point haul as they dispatched Leicester City 2-0, but the Spanish headmaster gave a frustrating update surrounding the fitness of Kieran Tierney.

During a live conference in the wake of the Leicester result, Arteta opened up on the situation of Tierney and his inability to provide a timetable till the Scottish international left-back would make his Arsenal return.

The absence of Tierney has surely been felt despite young Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares standing in admirably for the fan-favorite and former Celtic star, having missed the last three Arsenal fixtures, all of which were wins despite his failure to make the match day XI or be included in the squad at all.

His inability to train could be a tell-tale sign of a bigger concern that may loom over the horizon, so too could Arteta’s inability to give a clue as to how long he may remain out of action for the Gunners.

Arsenal in fine form as Leicester are dispatched

It was just two months ago that the Arsenal fanbase was on the verge of full meltdown after the Gunners lost three on the spin to open the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, but fast-forward to the present, and Arsenal are flying on the domestic front.

Arteta’s Gunners are on the back of five wins and two draws in their last-seven league outings and are one of the in-form sides in the English top division. Their run of results has seen them climb up the table to sixth and within genuine striking distance of cracking the top-four as early as next weekend when they host Watford at the Emirates.

Though Tierney may still be missing in action for the time being, Arsenal have shown remarkable and rapid improvement while keeping faith in some of their young recruits from the summer including Nuno Tavares and Sambi Lokonga, both of whom are currently in the team as replacements for vital personnel that are on the treatment table.

Should Arsenal’s form continue before Tierney is able to make his return, it could well be hard to justify dropping Tavares in favor of the returning Scotsman.
