UIDAI Makes Aadhaar’s Online Documents Update Feature Free Until June 14

The Unique Identification Authority of India has made updating documents online for Aadhaar free until June 14, an official statement said on Wednesday.

Previously, residents had to pay Rs. 25 to update their documents on the Aadhaar portal.

“The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to allow residents to update their Aadhaar documents online free of charge, a people-centric move that will benefit millions of residents. The free service is available for the next three months, i.e. from March 15 to June 14, 2023,” the official statement read.

In accordance with Aadhaar Registration and Update Regulations, 2016, holders of Aadhaar numbers may, every 10 years from the date of registration in Aadhaar, update their credentials in Aadhaar, at least once, submitting proof of identity (POI) and proof of address documents (POA), to ensure the continued accuracy of their information.

“It is important to note that this service is free only on the myAadhaar portal and will continue to attract a fee of Rs. 50 at physical Aadhaar centers, as in the previous case,” the statement said.

However, normal fees will apply in the event that a document is submitted to change demographic details (name, date of birth, address, etc.).

The updated documents help improve living comfort, improve service delivery by the government and improve the pass rate of Aadhaar authentication.

“UIDAI has encouraged residents to upload Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (PoI/PoA) documents to revalidate their demographic details, especially if Aadhaar was issued 10 years ago and has not never been updated. This will help improve living convenience, better service delivery and improve authentication success rate,” the statement said.

Nearly 1,200 government schemes and programs, run by central government and state governments, use Aadhaar-based identification for service delivery. Additionally, several other services including financial institutions such as banks, NBFCs, etc. also use Aadhaar to authenticate and onboard customers seamlessly.
