Two Premier League bosses emerging as potential head coach candidates for Arsenal if they decide to move on from Mikel Arteta

Two Premier League bosses emerging as potential head coach candidates for Arsenal if they decide to move on from Mikel Arteta

Arsenal’s nightmare start

Arsenal’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign has got off to an absolute nightmare start.

The Gunners would begin their season against newly-promoted Brentford, who had never played a game in the Premier League before.

The Bees, though, were able to take advantage of some poor Arsenal defending, especially from Ben White and Pablo Mari, to earn a 2-0 win.

The Gunners followed this up by losing 2-0 to Chelsea in the league, though that game could easily have ended with Thomas Tuchel’s men netting four or five.

And this is exactly what Manchester City managed in Arsenal’s last outing before the international break, putting five past the North Londoners, who are now officially enduring their worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1954/55.

Premier League bosses emerging as potential Arteta replacement

Such a poor start to the campaign has already seen Mikel Arteta’s future at the Emirates called into question, with reports at the back end of August having suggested that the capital outfit are likely to make Antonio Conte their first-choice target to replace the Spaniard.

Now though, it appears that the higher-ups at the Emirates are also scouting out more local talent.

According to TEAMtalk, Graham Potter and Thomas Frank are emerging as potential head coaching candidates for Arsenal if, and when, they decide to move on from Arteta.

Both managers are fairly attack-minded and both are well versed in the 3-back formation, which would seemingly suit Arsenal’s current side.

Ben White has of course played his best football in a three with Brighton, Kieran Tierney and Ainsley Maitland-Niles look solid in a back-five and new signing Takehiro Tomiyasu would likely do well as a right-sided centre-back in a three.

Marseille loanee William Saliba is also impressing in a back-three whilst on loan in France.
