Twitter will require phone number verification for a Blue subscription

If you’ve been following the Twitter saga since Musk took over as CEO, you’ll know things were pretty chaotic at headquarters. Not only was this the mass purge of Twitter employees, but when Twitter Blue relaunched it allowed any user to pay $8/month for a verified checkmark next to any profile name. This has resulted in abuse when accounts impersonating public figures, celebrities, and businesses and tweeting from those accounts and prompting Twitter to temporarily unplug Blue.

Over the weekend, Twitter Blue relaunched with the added ability to create Tweets of up to 4,000 characters, replies to Tweets will be prioritized, and users will see half the ads. Shortly after it went live, Twitter’s terms were updated to state that a verified phone number is required for Twitter Blue. If you are not yet a Blue subscriber and have not yet verified a phone number, you will be prompted to sign up to verify a number when you sign up.

Twitter accounts that have not been active in the past 30 days or have changed their profile picture, display name, or username in the previous seven days may also not be able to register. Subscribers will also need a verified phone number.

Those who sign up for Twitter Blue will immediately get all the benefits of Blue, such as editing Tweets and longer videos (as well as everything mentioned above), but won’t see the check mark right away. after. Musk confirmed last month that all Blue accounts will be manually verified. Twitter Blue will cost $8/month when you subscribe via web or $11/month when you sign up via iOS to account for Apple’s App Store tax.
