The account tracked the movements of Musk’s private jet using public domain data and issued alerts.

Musk said in a tweet in November that his commitment to free speech “even went so far as not to ban the account following my plane, even if it is a direct risk to personal safety. “.

Sweeney, a 20-year-old student from the University of Central Florida, tweeted on Saturday that Ella Irwin, Twitter’s vice president of trust and safety, had requested that the account be filtered and less visible to users.

Twitter and Sweeney did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.

In media interviews, Sweeney said he turned down a $5,000 offer from Tesla CEO in 2021 to shut down his bot account.

Sweeney also operates similar bot accounts to track Musk’s jet on other platforms – Facebook, Instagram and Meta Platforms’ Telegram.

Meanwhile, Twitter has undergone several changes since the billionaire took over as helm of the social media platform. This week, Musk disbanded a key advisory group, the Trust and Security Council, made up of dozens of independent civil rights, human rights and other organizations. The company formed the council in 2016 to address hate speech, harassment, child exploitation, suicide, self-harm and other issues on the platform.

On the other hand, Musk tried to prove by giving selected journalists access to some of the company’s internal communications dubbed “The Twitter Files” that officials from the former management team suppressed the voices of right.
