Tuchel drops hint that Hudson-Odoi will have role against Southampton on Tuesday

Tuchel demands consistency from Hudson-Odoi; hints at midweek involvement

Chelsea ripped through the weekend after they obliterated Daniel Farke’s Norwich 7-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier this afternoon in what was yet another thrashing suffered by the Canaries this season, with England U21 international Callum Hudson-Odoi being one of the key performers for the Blues as he got on the scoresheet in front of the home support.

Farke’s men were previously beaten 5-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad on match day two of the Premier League program after an opening weekend loss to Liverpool at home by a 3-0 scoreline.

But Chelsea set a marker to the rest of the league in the emphatic win, with Hudson-Odoi getting the nod in the front three alongside Kai Havertz and man of the match Mason Mount.

After his performance today on the back of his midweek outing against Malmö in the Champions League where he bagged an assist, Thomas Tuchel challenged Hudson-Odoi to continue to replicate his recent contributions with a midweek selection seemingly on the cards;

“He had a good game against Malmo, another good game today.

There are still things to improve and work on, but it’s on him. It’s like I said before the game, he has to show he has to produce performances like this consistently and it’s time to show. Next performance is on Tuesday.”

English youngster still has a role to play despite club spending

Getting on at Chelsea is not for the faint of heart when you are a professional footballer. The ruthlessness that is regularly on display with the desire for the Blues hierarchy to constantly improve the first-team is evident and glaring, but Callum Hudson-Odoi continues to stand the test of time at Stamford Bridge.

After being promoted from the Cobham production line full time in the 2018-19 season, the U21 international has started just 24-times despite being in the Premier League match day squad on eighty-four occasions.

Despite his limited involvement from the first minute, the talented winger still has plenty to offer in a player profile that is not only tactically versatile, but threatening when he is in the mood.

His goal return for England’s U21 outfit speaks to that fact, with 4-goals in 9-caps signaling a solid return.

If he can find the required consistency at Stamford Bridge, the 20-year-old could well propel himself into importance in the same vein that Mason Mount, Reece James, and now Trevoh Chalobah have managed to do.
