Tottenham is linked with interest in yet another defender this summer in the wake of Nuno Espírito Santo’s appointment and the departures of Jan Ventonghen and Toby Alderweireld, and are now training their sights on Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal for a potential deal late in the window.
As reported by The Telegraph, Spurs managing director of football Fabio Paratici looks to work his magic again this summer after pushing through deals for Atalanta pair Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero, as well as highly-touted Sevilla youngster Bryan Gil.

Emerson (22), just fully acquired by Barcelona earlier this summer after the club purchased the remaining 50% stake in his rights that were owned by Real Betis, where he spent three seasons at the Estadio Benito Villamarín while making 79-appearances across all competitions and being the first-choice right-back in the last two campaigns.
Tottenham with a clear plan for the future
The talk of the summer surrounding Tottenham was their ability to keep hold of Harry Kane amidst interest from champions Manchester City, and while that vital piece of the puzzle remaining at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is lovely to see if you’re a Spurs supporter, so too must be the undeniable fact that the club is aiming to build for the long-term this summer.
Should Emerson be acquired, his youthfulness would be added to Romero (23), Gollini (26), Gil (20), and Pape Matar Sarr (18), which is a clear sign that the club remains intent on keeping the future in mind as they look to push forward with their aims of establishing themselves as one of the elite core the Premier League has to offer.
Other summer links with the likes of Takahiro Tomiyasu (22) and Weston McKennie (23) points to a continuation of that trend.
