Tottenham set to fine trio after reporting for international duty without permission

Premier League clubs refuse to release “red list” internationals

Ahead of the September international break, the Premier League unanimously decided to prevent players set to play international matches in “red-list” countries from joining their national teams.

The reason for this is the disruption that it would cause the Premier League campaign, with those returning having to isolate in a hotel room for 10 days as per UK government regulations. This would rule them out of several games, but also severely reduce their match fitness, as the hotel would not allow significant training regimes.

Yesterday, three Premier League players were involved in a fracas during the Argentina vs Brazil game, with officials deporting them for having broken Brazilian quarantine rules, as can be seen below.

Tottenham set to fine players for leaving without permission

Despite the decision to keep players from red-listed countries at the club, three Spurs players joined up with their sides nonetheless. Giovanni Lo Celso and Cristian Romero both travelled to the Argentina camp, while Davinson Sanchez also joined up with Colombia for their international fixtures.

As per the Telegraph’s Matt Law, Spurs failed to give any of the three players permission to leave, and all three are set to receive fines upon their return.

To make matters worse for the club, all three have ruled themselves out of contention for Tottenham’s fixture against Crystal Palace, and are certainly a doubt for the fixture against Chelsea on 19th September.

Just how much will Spurs miss them?
