Tottenham Hotspur trolled by Portuguese Conference League opponents

England’s inaugural Conference League member

2020-21 was not a good season for Tottenham Hotspur. Reaching a Carabao Cup final, they sacked Jose Mourinho just six days before the fixture, before going on to lose the encounter.

In the Premier League, performances and results alike were far from ideal, despite Harry Kane finishing the campaign as both the top goalscorer and top provider in the Premier League.

While Spurs fans will cling to the fact that they finished above north London rivals Arsenal, they still missed out on Europa League football, having to settle for seventh place in the Premier League.

As a result of this, they will be the Premier League club with the dubious honour of representing the division in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League, where they enter in the second round.

With Roma (and former boss Jose Mourinho) perhaps the only other club of similar stature in the tournament, it represents a fantastic opportunity to finally bring silverware back to the white half of north London.

Spurs trolled by opponents

Two weeks ago, it was revealed that Tottenham would play either Portuguese outft Pacos de Ferreira or Irish side Larne FC, and it proved to be the former that triumphed in the two-legged tie between the two, winning 4-1 on aggregate to set up a tie with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

With the first-leg game due to be played on August 19th, Pacos have already begun hyping up the tie, releasing a video trolling Tottenham and their position in the London footballing hierarchy.

In the video [shown above or available here], the reporter can be heard describing the “London giants” that Pacos would face, leading to the fans watching to run through the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace as options, with his friend correcting him at every turn.

Finally, a Tottenham Hotspur logo is handed to the fan, who, upon seeing it, replies “pfft, them we can easily win”.

Could an upset be on the cards?
