Villains retain interest in Ward-Prowse
Aston Villa are known to be in the hunt for a central midfielder, and one of the names repeatedly linked with a switch to Villa Park this summer has been Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse. Villa, of course, have already raided the South coast side once already this summer, signing Danny Ings in a deal worth 30 million pounds, but are thought to be set to return for more.

As per The Telegraph, both Dean Smith’s side and Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head-to-head for the midfield man, although Southampton remain reluctant to sell their talismanic figure.
Price named for Cheick Doucoure
As per SportsLens, another option for Villa’s central midfield is Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure, who was impressive in Ligue 1 last season.

Goal.com first reported the news that Villa were interested in the youngster, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Atalanta this window. However, were Villa to chase the player, it is thought that a fee in the region of 15-18 million euros would be required in order to tempt Lens into a sale.
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa another option
A final option for the central midfield berth could well be Fulham’s Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, as per Sportslens. The report, translated from Gazzetta dello sport, credit Villa with a significant interest in the Fulham man, who impressed last season.
Despite Fulham’s relegation, Anguissa’s presence in the centre of the park was near ever-present, the 25 year old making 36 appearances for Scott Parker’s side, and has since downed tools at Craven Cottage, being left out of the Matchday squad for the opening game of the Championship season.

With Anguissa desperate to test himself elsewhere, and Villa keen on a midfielder to bolster their ranks, could a move happen late in the window?
