Christian Eriksen set for shock Premier League return

Danish star midfielder Christian Eriksen could be set for a surprise return to football with a destination in the Premier League by the end of the week.

The report comes from Times Sport correspondent Jonathan Northcroft stating that Eriksen is being courted by several clubs in the wake of his contractual release from Serie A outfit Inter Milan earlier this season.

Eriksen and Milan parted ways after the Milanese giants due to league rules that prohibit any player from featuring in Serie A after being fitted with a heart-starting device. It appears that no such rule exists in the Premier League, however, and the 29-year-old former Tottenham star has set the goal of “proving he is still a high-level player” with a view of winning a place in Kasper Hjulmand’s Denmark squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

As mentioned by the Times report, Eriksen’s wages at Inter were over the £200k/week mark but now able to sign on a free and rumored to not be after a massive payday, Eriksen becomes a potential affordable option for a fair few clubs in need of his creative genius.

Three clubs that could benefit from signing Danish star

Speculation around the potential destination of Christian Eriksen will undoubtedly begin to swirl as a number of Premier League outfits could benefit from his inclusion. Here are three that he could suit the most.

Newcastle: Probably the easiest choice of the list of candidates, Newcastle is truly in need of reinforcements in all areas of the pitch under Eddie Howe but has gotten off to a good start to their recruitment with deals for both Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood. But the harsh reality remains that the Magpies are bereft of any semblance of consistent creativity that does not spawn from Allan Saint-Maximin’s technical grace.

Everton: Another weekend, another loss for a struggling Everton outfit who is only six points clear of the bottom three. There is no doubt now that Rafa Benítez’s position at Goodison Park is precarious. A signing of the level of Eriksen would not only add strength to his position but also give him a tactically versatile player that would allow him a creative outlet away from wingers Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend. Abdoulaye Doucouré alongside Eriksen and Allan in midfield would be a formidable midfield trio indeed.

Leeds United: Much like Everton, Leeds United is in the lurch this season when compared to where the club feels they belong under owner Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta. Also similarly to the Toffees, as well s Newcastle, Leeds lacks creativity in the center of the park. A fit duo of Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich is formidable but not the puppet masters required. The same can be said of Rodrigo, who often deputizes in midfield. Only Klich and Patrick Bamford have more than one assist this season, and Eriksen could very well solve that.
