Chelsea vs Liverpool
The weekend’s marquee Premier League till will take place on Sunday at 4:30 pm UK time.
Said clash will see Chelsea play host to Liverpool in a tie that could have huge ramifications for this season’s title race.
Ahead of the weekend’s action, it has become clear that a three-horse title race has emerged between Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
However, Man City are winning that mini-group by some distance, with Chelsea eight points adrift and Liverpool nine points adrift – though the Reds do have a game in hand on both of the aforementioned teams.
So, if Chelsea were to go on to lose their clash this weekend and Manchester City beat Arsenal, they would find themselves 11 points behind Man City with less than half the campaign to play out.
Given how impressive Man City have been of late, one would assume that Thomas Tuchel’s side would not be able to make up that ground – effectively ruling themselves out of the title race.
Therefore, a win against Liverpool is of huge importance, even if it means Chelsea simply maintain their current eight-point deficit.
Thomas Tuchel on Lukaku & Reece James
Ahead of the Chelsea tie, Thomas Tuchel would speak to the press on Friday morning.
When doing so Tuchel discussed a number of topics, including the Romelu Lukaku interview in which he said he was not happy with the situation at Chelsea:
Romelu Lukaku to @SkySport: “Physically I am fine. But I’m NOT happy with the situation at Chelsea. Tuchel has chosen to play with another system – I won’t give up, I’ll be professional. I am not happy with the situation but I am professional – and I can’t give up now”. 🔵 #CFC pic.twitter.com/KGNoJ10cwp

When quizzed about the interview, Tuchel stated:
“We don’t like it of course. It brings noise that we don’t need and it’s not helpful. We don’t want to make more out of it than it actually is. It is easy to take lines out of context, shorten lines, make headlines and then realise later that it is not so bad.”
Elsewhere, Tuchel provided updates on Ben Chilwell and Reece James, the latter of which was injured in Chelsea’s last outing:
“Chilly of course had surgery and has our best wishes. Seems like the season is over. Reece has a hamstring injury, muscle, with always the examination is a bit later. The images are better if we wait. We will know more today.”
