Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel’s post-Carabao Cup finale comments featured a pair of altogether noteworthy takeaways surrounding both the clash itself, and his position at the club.

First up came the German’s take on one of a number of controversial decisions across the 120 minutes at Wembley, in the form of Romelu Lukaku’s disallowed goal.

After being slipped through on goal midway through the first-half of extra-time, Chelsea’s oft-maligned hitman did superbly to cut inside onto his favoured left foot, before lashing past Caoimhin Kelleher in the Liverpool goal.

What looked set to be the evening’s opener, however, was subsequently ruled out by VAR, who adjudged Lukaku to have been offside.

But still shots of the incident only culminated in further confusion, as the Belgian appeared to be, at the very least, level with last man Virgil van Dijk:

Speaking to the media on the back of his side slipping to an eventual penalty shootout defeat, Thomas Tuchel was therefore inevitably asked for his opinion on Lukaku’s disallowed goal.

And Chelsea’s boss too appeared somewhat perplexed, admitting that the line drawn up to Lukaku’s arm by the VAR team overseeing proceedings at Wembley was ‘a bit weird’:

‘Change nothing’

From here, Tuchel was then drawn on the recent statement released by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

For those not aware, on Saturday, under mounting pressure amid home country Russia’s ongoing invasion of the Ukraine, Abramovich revealed his intention to ‘give trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC’.

Precisely what that means for the Blues moving forward remains unclear at present, but Tuchel certainly doesn’t appear worried about the potential effect on his own future in west London.

The Chelsea boss has assured that ‘nothing’ will change when it comes to his position, amid ongoing contact with Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech:
