This crazy viral ‘Wednesday’ dance is taking over TikTok

In episode 4 of Netflix monster hit, Wednesday Addams shows off some iconic moves during a dance at Nevermore Academy, the school for outcasts where she deals with being sarcastic and trying to stop a beast during a killing spree. And the internet took notice of his movements.

People all over TikTok are doing their own versions of the goofy dance, which involves throwing their heads back, gazing up at the sky with wide staring eyes, and swinging their arms side to side and up high. down like a crank robot.

It’s part Argentine tango, part spooky shimmy, and part C-3PO trying to go wild.

“Now is the time I’ll be dancing at every party from now on,” wrote a TikTok user whose version of the signature dance has garnered over 72 million views. Dressed in black, as Wednesday Addams always is, the TikTok’er looks remarkably similar to Jenna Ortega, who plays the Netflix show’s moody lead character and choreographed the dance in real life.

Ortega’s moves clearly pay homage to other classic Addams Family moments, like when the original Wednesday teaches Lurch how to dance in the macabre ’60s sitcom and another where matriarch Morticia Addams cuts the rug stiffly. in the 1991 film The Addams Family.

In Netflix’s dark comedy, Ortega dances to The Cramps’ 1981 song Goo Goo Muck, but many on TikTok go with Lady Gaga’s Bloody Mary (“I’ll dance dance dance with my hands hands hands”). The lyrics match the dance’s stylized hand movements and nod to Wednesday’s trusty pal, Thing, a disembodied hand that’s also been a guest at a number of Tik Tok dances. Gaga herself has even followed the trend.
