Thibaut Courtois signs new Real Madrid contract

Real Madrid tie down Courtois

Real Madrid have announced that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has signed a new long term deal in the Spanish capital. Courtois initially signed a six year deal at the club in 2018, meaning that this represents a two-year extension on his original contract.

The Belgian shot-stopper, now 29 years old, is now set to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu until he is 34 years old. He has made 130 appearances for Real Madrid since joining the side from Chelsea in a 31.5 million pound move, and kept 17 clean sheets in 38 La Liga appearances last campaign.

Benzema next

As per reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club are next attempting to tie down their top scorer, Karim Benzema, to a new contract.

The French forward has scored 281 goals in 560 games for Los Blancos, and netted 23 times in 34 games last season, propelling Real Madrid to a second-placed finish.

The Spanish side will be keen to avoid losing any more of their top players on the cheap, with Raphael Varane joining Manchester United for 34 million pounds, and Sergio Ramos leaving the club on a free before joining French outfit PSG.

Benzema netted a brace on the opening day of the 21/22 season last weekend, as Real Madrid strolled to a 4-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves to top the table after the first round of fixtures.

Now 33, Benzema may be past his very peak, but certainly remains a formidable forward.
