Saul Niguez’s Chelsea stint
Saul Niguez would join Chelsea on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day this summer.
The Spaniard, at the time, looked a real coup for the Blues, who were arguably a man short in central midfield – especially when considering N’Golo Kante’s persisting injury issues.
In turn, the experienced Saul looked like a great 4th option for Thomas Tuchel and co. However, the Atleti man’s Chelsea stint did not get off to a great start, with the midfielder having been subbed off after 45 minutes of his debut, versus Aston Villa.
Saul has since been handed just 27 minutes of action in Chelsea’s last four Champions League fixtures, and their ensuing six league games.
Even more concerningly, Tuchel has opted to hand chances to the likes of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek ahead of Saul, despite the pair’s Chelsea futures having looked altogether bleak at the start of the season.

But though he may be struggling on the pitch, it appears as though Saul is getting the support he needs off the pitch.
Saul’s brothers would speak to Goal about the midfielder recently, with Jony, his eldest brother, urging for Saul to be given time and a period to adapt:
“He requires time and adaptation and is in the ideal place to evolve, continue to grow and regain his sporting level.”.
His other brother Aaron, meanwhile, claimed that both Cesar Azpilicueta and Kepa Arrizabalaga are helping Saul adapt to life at Chelsea:
“For me, it is the ideal team for him. He has always watched the Premier League because he likes it a lot.
“He likes the intensity, verticality and especially its fans, they always help their players, their team at all times and especially in the less good moments. Both Cesar (Azpilicueta) and Kepa (Arrizabalaga) are helping Saul a lot to adapt.
“I am convinced that Saul needs the adaptation process of him like any player, but I’m sure that the best version of him will be seen soon.”
