Nuno racks up another win

Following a pathetic performance in the north London derby that saw Arsenal run away 3-1 winners, the prospect of Nuno Espirito Santo losing his job seemed an althogether real one.

In the week since, wins at the expense of Slovenian minnows NS Mura and the tougher task of Aston Villa have prolonged his stay in north London until at least the international break and, despite the doom and gloom, they remain two points clear of Arsenal.

With games against Newcastle, West Ham and Burnley after the international break, Tottenham will be hoping to put a run of form together to secure Nuno’s future for the season at least.

Nuno can leave for free in the summer, on one condition

However, should it all go up in flames, it seems as though Spurs have an ace up their sleeve in the form of the contract offered to the Portuguese when he took over.

According to the reliable David Ornstein, should Nuno fail to secure a top six finish (an improvement on last season’s seventh-placed finish), he can be released from his two year deal with no compensation owed to him.

This comes as a stark contrast to Jose Mourinho’s deal, which cost the club a reported 15 million to terminate when they did so in April this year.

Will Spurs be taking up this offer, or will Nuno make a success of the role?
