Smith Rowe shines for Mikel Arteta

It is safe to say that Emile Smith Rowe has attracted plenty of attention from pundits so far this season.

Following a dazzling performance against Aston Villa, Jamie Carragher described him as the best dribbler in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Gary Neville claimed that the Hale End graduate was “more clinical” than Cristiano Ronaldo was at this age in his career, and suggested that he could continue to improve dramatically.

Having come into the side on Boxing day of 2020, Smith Rowe has quickly established himself as a key component of Mikel Arteta’s side, and is now keeping out record signing Nicolas Pepe and former Real Madrid talent Martin Odegaard, a testament of his quality.

Smith Rowe in the goals

Despite his impressive performances, one thing that Smith Rowe (and Bukayo Saka) were criticised for was their output in the final third. Smith Rowe managed just two goals in 20 appearances for the Gunners last campaign, although he provided 4 assists.

Nonetheless, his critics demanded more.

And now, he is delivering, as the stats prove. His goal against Leicester City made it four goals in seven, matches the tally that he managed in all competitions last season.

While he must continue to find the back of the net to ensure that this is more than a purple patch, it is an impressive start to the campaign.
